ABOUT US

In August of 2014, lead coordinator Will Green created a Twitter feed in an effort to reach out to the public and ignite an interest in bringing Major League Soccer to the Queen City. Almost overnight, the feed picked up pace, gaining interest from various corners of the Charlotte area. Now, having caught the attention of thousands across the city, the grass roots campaign is taking the next step in making our voice heard. Using social media, as well as various public promotions, Queen City F.C. will aim to capture the attention of Major League Soccer officials and bring an MLS franchise to Charlotte as early as 2017.

The idea has been circulating throughout the Charlotte region for nearly a decade, as soccer has begun to captivate citzens across America exponentially over the past several years. After the 2014 FIFA World Cup, support was at an all-time high throughout America. Sports bars and high capacity stadiums were filled across the country, boasting pride and passion, giving way to what many will define as the year soccer became relevant in the United States.

On August 2, 2014, Bank of America Stadium, home of NFL franchise Carolina Panthers, hosted an International Champions Cup match between Premier League title contenders Liverpool F.C. and Italian Serie A giants A.C. Milan. The game time was set and announced in early May, selling over 66,000 tickets when the box office opened. Battling to a 2-0 victory, Liverpool F.C. dazzled the Charlotte crowd and left many contemplating the possibility, and dreaming the dream that many of us have been wishing for for years, could Charlotte one day act as a home to a Major League Soccer franchise?

Yes. Charlotte currently supports local USL Pro side Charlotte Eagles. The Eagles have been around for decades, however, recent expenses have struck a fatal blow to the non-profit organization prompting the team's termination at the end of the 2014 season. In light of the fall of the Charlotte Eagles, the club has reportidly agreed to sell their USL Pro rights to found a new USL Pro side in Charlotte, NC set to be announced in 2015. The new USL Pro side, currently regarded as Queen City Soccer Club, will be monitored by Major League Soccer officials throughout their debut season.

Thus, Queen City F.C. is a grass roots campaign to bring attention to the Charlotte area and create an undeniable presence in the eyes of Major League Soccer. Said to soon expand to 24 teams, the MLS is currently searching for future homes across the country. Why would Charlotte be considered? Look around. We are the Queen City and we will rise as one.
